Pottery Classes

Check our current class schedule to see what classes are coming up. If you are interested in having a class put together for you, we can do that as well. All we need is a group of 6 people and we can put together any of the following classes for you.

Clay Day Wheel Intensive
Here is your chance to try the wheel with no long term commitment. Sign up for a one hour time slot and we will have an instructor here to give a "down and dirty" pottery wheel lesson. If you've always wanted to try it, this is the day to do it. We normally don't have a pottery lifeguard on duty, but this day we will. Come play with us.
$12 includes clay and one hour of instruction.

Handbuilding in Clay
6 wks
Instructor: Kristin Landowski
$105 for six classes
Materials: $25 for 25 lb clay
There are so many cool things that can be done with clay. Once students learn the techniques and methods of handbuilding, their imaginations take off. The students are guided through each step from beginning design through the finished glazing. Every student in the class is inspired to come up with a design concept. And when they’re finished, each piece expresses the unique personality of the artist. Any one can learn to create beautiful handbuilt items such as clay masks, altered shapes, handbuilt teapots, handbuilt lamps, clay boxes, coil building, clay creature banks, gargoyle mugs, and more. Call 715-345-9500 to sign up today!

Raku
$30 includes glazing with Raku glazes and firing of one piece. You may bring in your own pottery or purchase bisque here at Art Village. An addition $5 per piece if you are firing more than one. Raku is not food safe.

Join us for a unique firing experience. Bring a piece of fired bisque an we’ll go through the process of Raku firing. Pottery is removed from the kiln during the firing when it is red hot. Quickly, each piece is set in a garbage can full of combustible materials which immediately catch fire. Then the garbage can is closed with a tight fitting lid, so the pottery can smoke for 10-15 minutes. Next the pottery is cooled quickly in a bucket of water. When cool enough to handle, each piece is scrubbed to remove any soot.
NOTE: Raku firing is very cool but unpredictable. Some breakage can occur.
